Hey guys, it’s Pete here. I want to share some fitness business marketing tips with you for what I think will be the trends in 2017.
And, there are five key things which I see as being a massive trend. Some of these are quite new, others have been around for the last ten or twelve years that I’ve in the industry. But, I want to share what these five things are with you today.
Number one, I think with your marketing as a PT or a gym owner the key is being completely transparent.
Today, there’s too many people talking online, on social media group, on review pages for you to be anything other than transparent and genuine and authentic.
So, I think if prospects can get to know you, like you and trust you even more, they’re going to be more likely to get to come to you to train and stay with you for a long time. So, I think live video will be huge.
If you send Instagram images or live video, Facebook live will be massive, so people can see how you work. People can see what a session is like, see how you are with clients and see the real you. I think that’s a really powerful thing, is being transparent.
The second thing is about creating a strong community.
Creating this buzz and this third place. If your gym or training centre can become someone’s third place – and what I mean by third place, is their first place is probably home, the second place might be work, but if their third place can be your centre or gym, you’re on to a very, very good thing.
So, creating that community, creating those people of like-minded people who come and stay, your centre is a massive thing. So, think how can you create events, create community, create that buzz where it is somebody’s third place.
The third thing…
I think trainers today, it’s a tough gig. You have to be more than just a PT.
You have to be more than just someone who’s counting reps and giving you bench presses and pull-ups. You have to be an expert in nutrition, you have to be an expert on habit-based coaching.
You have to be able to coach different types of motivation levels, different types of ability – different type of people and build rapport quickly with these people for them to trust you.
So, I think it’s a multi-faceted job now. If you’re a good technical trainer, you will suffer if you don’t develop a well-rounded approach to your training. So, habits, nutrition, fitness, mindset, all these things which matter.
Number four, I think will be about experiences. The more you can create, the better retention you will have.
I think is the more experiences you can create in your gym, in your centre with your clients, the better.
Some of the best experiences for me in 2016 have been with an awesome crew.
Traveling to Spain, traveling to Mike’s Gym. Doing events, doing intensives with Keegan down at the property, learning Wim Hoff.
Doing some of these experiences that I hadn’t done twelve months ago, is an amazing, amazing thing. So, think, how can I bring more experiences into my clients’ lives.
Number five, is about having a beginners mindset and always up-skilling.
I think it’s not really a trend, it’s not really sexy, but something that’s going to be a constant is that you’re forever up-skilling both your soft skills and your hard skills.
So, hard skills, what I mean are the technical stuff that sets the reps, the physiology, the anatomy.
The soft skills are things like sales and marketing and people skill and rapport building to create a really well-rounded PT, both soft and hard skills.
I think, as well, we’re going to see a lot more functional and calisthenics and body weight stuff come into it, mixed with old school training, old school proven techniques. Stuff that doesn’t change at all. But definitely gymnastics style training will be a massive trend for 2017.
So there you go….
I think that was 6, 6 predictions for 2017. What will be big in our industry and what you need to work on.
