Should I ‘hustle’? Today I want to share a really key message for you, because I see so many people in the fitness industry getting this wrong.
I just shared this with the members of my Inner Circle Mastermind. It’s all about hustling… the right way.
So, I’m all for working hard. I’m a hard worker. I’m not afraid of working long hours.
But what I see people getting wrong in the fitness industry, is they’re boasting and claiming about working 12 hours or 15 hours or 16 hours per day.
Yet, there’s not a lot of results from that. So I want to share with you how to hustle the right way so you actually get work done.
Tip #1: Use a timer
I like the Pomodoro Technique which is 25 minutes of work, 5 minutes of rest.
Where you set one task for 25 minutes and you work really, really hard to do that.
You’re not doing anything else except the one task.
So there’s not 20 tabs open on your computer or you’re not taking phone calls or SMS-ing your girlfriend.
You’re working on one thing at a time.
In the five minute break then you can check social, reply to people, go to the toilet, grab a sip to eat–whatever you need to reset for your next 25 minutes like I said.
So tip number one, use a timer.
Tip #2: No distractions
When you work, work.
You’ll be amazed what you can get done in six hours of quality timed blocks or 12 Pomodoro is right.
Twenty-five on, five off is 30 minutes. Twelve of those, six hours.
You can get so much done when there are no distractions. So, phone on air flight mode. Unless you need the internet, we turn the internet off. We turn pop up emails off. We turn distractions off. We turn the world off.
For those 25 minutes, you are on. No distractions. When you work, work.
Tip #3: Find your flow
Find your magic time.
For me, it’s right now, mid-morning.
I love getting up you know, reasonably early and working hard through the lunchtime early afternoon and then shutting down for the afternoon and night.
For my girlfriend, it’s late at night. She fires up at about 3:00 or 4:00 or 5:00 PM. It’s really a little bit different.
But for you, find what works. It might be 5:00 AM. It might be midday. It might be midnight.
Don’t think it has to be 5:00 AM. A lot of authors preach the 5:00 AM club. But if that doesn’t work for you, then find your magic time.
So, to wrap up what I just taught you.
- Number one is to use a timer. I like the Pomodoro Technique but a lot of them work.
- Tip number two, no distractions. When you work, work. Everything else is off.
- Tip number three, find your magic time. Is it 5:00 AM? Is it mid-morning after school drop off? or is it perhaps late at night? It doesn’t matter. Find when you’re in your best flow and guard that time like your life depends on it, because well, it kind of does if you want to move forward in your career.
