Hey guys, Pete here. Just had a quick swim and I want to share this simple trick that helped me massively in the last 12 months. Stress-less, show up better in a different roles that I have and just made me more calm.
So, let me tell you a quick story.
I found myself often showing up to different situation really stress out.
Thinking about what should I’ve done before, like previously today or yesterday, and what I should be doing in an hour or 5 hours or tomorrow. So, I really lack in presence.
I’ve been noticing it with my kids. I show up as a dad to my kids, just not with it, and they would notice. I’ll be on my phone hustling, trying to do stuff or try to do some business stuff when I was with them. It just didn’t really work.
So, the thing that I’ve been doing and I caught myself doing this like I wanna do that, I wanna be really present, and relax, and giving the person my full energy out whether with my kids or with a team member, client or a friend.
The thing that I learned, and I read this in Brendon Burchard book is called “Release Tension, Set Intention”.
So, what are these? As you go between different roles like for me, I’m a full time dad but I have them part time, for example, tonight I picked them up ‘til the next three days, it will be awesome.
I have the roles in my business as a coach, as a salesman, as a teacher, as a team builder. So, I have these different roles.
So, if I catch up a mate for a coffee or a meal or my family, whatever…
…I try to set the intention of who do i want to show up as.
And it might sound who were out there but I’m thinking “do I want to show up as curious, playful or good listener or do I want to show up as someone whose magic or just being calm or direct from conversation”, whatever it is.
And there’s different ways I need to show up in a sales situation or coaching situation versus as a dad or as a mate.
So, it’s 2 parts- release tension, set intention.
So, I found as I was crossing from salesman to dad to friend to coach or whoever I was, in different ways I need to be present to show up.
So, there’s 2 part of this.
The first part is release tension.
So, it’s just a couple of big breathe like a minnie meditation of releasing tension, or breathing, especially for me, like into my belly letting my jaw relax and letting my face relax.
Just several moments not in an hour or even 10 minutes just like 5 breaths, as I switch roles.
And then, I set the intention.
As how do I show up into this next appointment or this dinner with friends or this coffee with family or picking up my kids from school. I don’t want to be on the phone talking business as I get them out of their school classroom.
So, there’s really 2 step plan of releasing tension- relaxing, breathing, not thinking, just being present for 10 seconds.
And then setting the intention of what I want to show up as for the next thing, has massively helped me in the last 6 months.
What I felt the benefits for me, might be different from you. But the benefits from me, I’d be more present, I’d been a better listener, I’d been more relaxed and the person that I know that can feel that showing up that way in business or in life or whatever it might be.
So, I did that 2 step thing. When I performed that 2 steps task of releasing tension, setting intention and I’ve heard explaining is like segment intention.
If you’re going from coffee with your partner, to a sales call, to coaching a client, what’s the intention for those 3 things?
As I release the tension, breathe, relax my jaw and belly and thought “How I want to show up?” That’s might the intention part.
I was showing up more present, more open, more me. My heart was bigger. I was better listener.
It improved myself. It improved my business.
It really works across all those things.
It definitely helped me for the last 6 months.
